BUCK CREEK REGIONAL PARK MANAGER HONORED
FOR “SERVICE & STEWARDSHIP”

COLUMBUS, OH – Virgil Goodwine, regional manager of Buck Creek and John Bryan state parks in west central Ohio, has received Ohio State Parks’ “Service & Stewardship Award” for 2006.

The award recognizes Goodwine’s efforts to successfully implement long-term goals of Ohio State Parks in the day-to-day operations of his two parks.

“Virgil systematically manages his parks to achieve results in each of our five goal areas,” said Dan West, chief of Ohio State Parks. “He is always making improvements to facilities and services and has added new special events to attract visitors.”

Goodwine’s award also recognizes his efforts to form fruitful partnerships with the community around Buck Creek and John Bryan. Those partnerships include the local university, high school groups, scout troops, volksmarch association, mountain bike association, horseman’s council and the park’s friends group.

He supports training, recognition and awards for the professional development of his staff. “The community, public and Ohio State Parks benefit greatly from his commitment and perseverance,” West added.

Ohio’s 74 state parks encompass nine resort lodges, six golf courses, more than 500 cottages and 56 family campgrounds with more than 9,000 campsites.
