OHIO STATE PARKS OFFER MANY WAYS TO OBSERVE EARTH DAY
Activities scheduled for two weekends, April 21-22 and April 28
State Park Events
COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio State Parks will spread Earth Day observances over two weekends, with a variety of activities on Saturday and Sunday, April 21-22, and a number of clean-up events on Saturday, April 28.
In addition to the traditional litter pick-ups, a handful of state parks are offering workshops that explore topics from nature photography to beekeeping. Hocking Hills State Park is holding its Sixth Annual “Shoot the Hills” nature photography workshop and photo contest on April 20-22. Beaver Creek State Park in Columbiana County is holding its first photography workshop from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, at the park’s wildlife education center.
Malabar Farm State Park near Mansfield is planning an assortment of events on Saturday, April 21, kicking off with a 10 a.m. wildflower hike, a beekeeper’s workshop at noon, and a 7 p.m. barn dance. The activities at Malabar are part of the Mohican Wildlife Weekend, April 20-22, where outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy three days of wildlife, nature and recreation offerings at parks and other facilities throughout the Ashland, Mansfield and Loudonville area.
Traditional park clean-up days and guided wildflower hikes are planned at the state park locations below.
NORTHEAST
Earth Appreciation Day at Cleveland Lakefront State Park (Cuyahoga County); April 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. Meet at Villa Angela/Wildwood Area to help eliminate invasive plants, and receive a free white pine seedling. Call 216-881-8141 ext. 3001 for more information.
Earth Day Clean Up at West Branch State Park (Portage County); April 21 at 9 a.m. Meet at the West Boat Ramp Pavilion to help pick up litter throughout the park, and stay for a hot dog cookout afterwards. Call 330-296-3239 for more information.
Night of the Frogs at Quail Hollow State Park (Stark County); April 21, 8-10 p.m. at the Carriage House Nature Center. See a slide presentation on Ohio’s frogs and toads, then search for these singing amphibians in one of the park’s wetland areas. Call 330-877-6652.
Spring Clean Up at Beaver Creek State Park (Columbiana County); April 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meet at the Red Barn to join park volunteers as they get ready for summer. Call 330-385-3091 for more information.
Earth Day Clean Up at Geneva State Park (Ashtabula County); April 28 at 9 a.m. Meet at the Geneva Lodge for a litter clean up along the Lake Erie shoreline. A hot dog cookout and potluck will begin at noon in the pavilion in the Cedar Cabin area. Volunteers can earn a tree seedling for participating in the clean up.
