COLUMBUS, OH - As part of an Earth Day 2007 observance, ODNR Director Sean D. Logan today announced a total of $1,095,245 in grants to communities across the state to support their local recycling and litter prevention efforts.

The announcement came during presentation of a $26,000 check to the Delaware County Habitat for Humanity ReStore, which resells donated deconstruction materials to benefit Habitat homes in the county. The Delaware ReStore will use its grant for the purchase of a box truck to collect these materials.

The Community Development Grants range from $5,956 to $100,000, depending on the type of project funded.  Communities receiving grants have proposed a variety of efforts, including construction and demolition debris recycling, litter collection, material recovery facility recycling, curbside and drop-off recycling, special venue recycling and targeted material collection projects.

“These projects are excellent examples of our growing recognition that any sound development, any development that is good for Ohio, will not happen at the expense of conservation. It will happen because of conservation and in cooperation with it,” said Sean D. Logan, ODNR director.

Ohio counties, solid waste management districts/authorities and municipalities with populations of more than 50,000 are eligible for the grants. A match is required, but is dependent on the type of project funded and the average income base of the community.
