FORMER OEC EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR NAMED
CHIEF ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY ADVISOR AT ODNR
COLUMBUS, OH - Vicki Deisner, former executive director of the Ohio Environmental Council (OEC), began work on April 16 as chief environmental policy advisor to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).
In her new capacity, Deisner will advise ODNR Director Sean D. Logan and the agency’s staff on current and future policy initiatives and trends.
“As competition for our resources grows, and the pace of technological change increases, the importance of a sound environmental policy will also grow,” said Sean D. Logan, ODNR director. “Vicki Deisner is a great addition to the department, and she is a great asset to the future prosperity of the state.”
Deisner led the OEC for the last 12 years, thrusting it into a position of prominence among environmental advocacy groups nationwide. Under her leadership, the OEC won an agreement to make the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) accelerate plans to clean up state waterways, helped secure a $100 million loan fund for clean energy projects for Ohio consumers, and started an environmental legal clinic for law students.
“I look forward to the opportunity to serve the people of Ohio in addressing challenges to Ohio’s environmental and economic future,” Deisner said. “Whether we are considering the restoration of Lake Erie and Ohio’s vast miles of rivers and streams, or the potential to create clean energy through renewable wind power, we have the opportunity to improve the quality of life in Ohio’s communities.”
Deisner, an attorney, formerly worked in the Ohio Attorney General’s office prosecuting environmental violations. Aside from a law degree, she holds degrees in zoology, physiology and respiratory therapy.
