SANDUSKY, OH -- People interested in learning more about Lake Erie and its environmental, recreational and educational benefits are invited to attend "Explore The Shore Day" from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on August 25 at Lakeview Park in Port Clinton. The event is sponsored by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Coastal Services Center.
Families are encouraged to bring their children for fun activities including a beach IQ quiz, a sand castle building contest and water safety demonstrations. Other demonstrations at "Explore The Shore Day" will include: Lake Erie wildlife by the ODNR Division of Wildlife; water safety by the ODNR Division of Watercraft; and "Explore Hidden Lake Erie Treasures" by the New Wave Dive Shop. Staff from the ODNR divisions of water, real estate and land management, watercraft and wildlife will be on hand with educational displays.
"Explore The Shore Day" is part of the Coastweeks Celebration that runs from August 25 through September 23 and focuses on the fragility and importance of Lake Erie as one of Ohio's great natural resources. The theme of Coastweeks 2001 is, "I Can Help Lake Erie."
Ohio's Coastweeks is coordinated by the Ohio Lake Erie Commission Office and is part of a national program that celebrates the many benefits of America's waters and shorelines.
