OHIO STATE PARK CAMPGROUNDS ARE POPULAR GETAWAYS
DURING BUSY LABOR DAY WEEKEND

Updates on available campsite locations accessible from ODNR web site

COLUMBUS, OH -- Some state park campgrounds are likely to be full during the upcoming Labor Day weekend, but with 57 campgrounds and 9,000 campsites around Ohio, campers are sure to find vacancies at one of these parks.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) encourages prospective campers to call 1-800-BUCKEYE or check the agency web site at www.dnr.state.oh.us before leaving home this weekend for updates on available campsite locations. Until 5 p.m. Friday, campers can also call the Ohio State Parks information line at 614-265-7000 to check for the latest campground availability.

While Labor Day traditionally marks the end of the summer camping season, Ohio State Parks campgrounds are open year round. Autumn abounds with plenty of family fun including potlucks, fall color hikes, festivals, Halloween campouts and other special events. Cooler temperatures, colorful woodlands and less crowding make fall one of the most pleasant times to camp in Ohio.

Ohio's 73 state parks feature a variety of campground amenities from primitive to full service. For campers who do not own equipment or prefer to rent equipment, camping options programs are available through October at a number of parks. Campers can rent a complete campsite with tent (already erected), cots, cooler and lantern or a full-equipped recreational vehicle already parked on a campsite. Other camping options allow campers to rent teepees, yurts, rustic camper cabins or deluxe cedar cabins. Information on camping options programs is available on the web site listed above. Reservations can also be made through the individual parks.
