COLUMBUS, OH - Ken Alvey has been named acting chief of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft while a search is underway to replace Jeff Hoedt, who has been the division's chief since 1996. Hoedt is leaving ODNR effective August 9 to take a leadership position at U. S. Coast Guard headquarters in Washington, D.C.
As acting chief of the Division of Watercraft, Alvey will oversee Ohio's recreational boating program. He has been a deputy chief of the division since June 2001 overseeing boating access projects and registration and titling functions. Alvey previously served as manager of the division's Lake Erie region, based in Cleveland. He first joined ODNR in 1972.
Announcing Alvey's appointment as acting chief, ODNR Director Sam Speck said the department would conduct an extensive search for a permanent chief of the watercraft division. We anticipate looking at a number of strong candidates from within and outside the department, Speck said. Based upon his history of fine leadership, I am confident that Ken will do a good job as acting chief.
