COLUMBUS, OH -- Englewood native Wendi Crabill has been named state urban forester for southwestern Ohio where she will work to support urban forestry efforts in 14 counties, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).
Crabill will promote urban forestry efforts in Adams, Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Darke, Greene, Hamilton, Highland, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, Shelby and Warren counties. Her duties will include providing community leaders with organizational and technical assistance to develop long-term comprehensive urban tree care programs.
A resident of Cincinnati, Crabill is a certified arborist and holds a bachelor's degree in environmental and plant biology from Ohio University. She most recently served as a contract urban forester for the City of Cincinnati and has served as a volunteer for the state urban forestry program.
The ODNR Division of Forestry provides forest management assistance to private woodland owners in Ohio, assists local communities through urban forestry programs and works to prevent the destruction of forestlands by fires, insects and disease. Ohio's state foresters grow more than 3 million tree seedlings each year at the Marietta State Nursery and also manage more than 185,000 acres on Ohio's 20 state forests.
