UPCOMING WINTER BOAT SHOWS PROVIDE EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITIES TO BEGIN PLANNING FOR THE SUMMER RECREATIONAL SEASON

Shows slated for Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland and Dayton in January

COLUMBUS, OH -- January marks the start of the winter boat show season, when Ohioans traditionally begin planning for the summer recreational season, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

Boat show attendees can view the latest models in watercraft and marine equipment, learn about Ohio's best recreational fishing and boating areas and register for state boating education courses. Anyone born on or after January 1, 1982 is required to complete a boater education course before operating a watercraft with 10 or more horsepower in the state.

Ohio ranks eighth nationally in registered recreational watercraft, with more than 415,000 boats. An estimated 3 million Ohio adults enjoy boating each year. Recreational boating in Ohio contributes an estimated $1.5 billion annually to the state’s economy and helps support more than 19,000 jobs.

“Recreational boating is very affordable and remains highly popular in Ohio," said Ken Alvey, chief of the ODNR Division of Watercraft. "It is an activity that is well-suited for families and has a high level of support services in the form of boating education programs, boating opportunities, facilities and an excellent marine dealer network."

Ohio’s boat show season begins in January with a four-event lineup in Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland and Dayton. The Cincinnati Travel, Sports and Boat Show will be held January 9-18 in the Cincinnati Convention Center. The Central Ohio Recreational Vehicle and Marine Dealers Show in Columbus is scheduled for January 10-18 at the Ohio Expositions Center in Columbus. The Mid-America Boat, Sail and Power Boat Show is scheduled for January 16-25 at the IX Center near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. The Miami Valley Boat Show is January 21-25 in Dayton’s Hara Arena.

Marine dealers from several states will participate in the Penn-Ohio Boat Show February 6-8 at the Eastwood Expo Center in Niles. The central Ohio marine dealers will return to the Ohio Expositions Center February 12-15 for the Columbus Sports, Vacation and Boat Show.

The American & Canadian Sport, Travel and Outdoor Show is being held March 13-21 at the IX Center in Cleveland.
