LODGE AT MOHICAN STATE PARK TO CLOSE IN JANUARY AS PART OF A
CONTINUING RENOVATION PROJECT
COLUMBUS, OH - The Lodge & Conference Center at Mohican State Park in Ashland County will close from January 17 to April 12 as part of a continuing project to renovate and upgrade the facility, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).
Other park facilities such as recreational trails, cottages and the campground will be open for regular use by visitors.
Renovations at the lodge and conference center include upgrade of the building’s heating and cooling systems, kitchen improvements and additional efforts to make hallways and other open areas handicap accessible. The work is part of a $1.1 million project that began last year with the construction of five new wheelchair-accessible rooms, as well as new balconies on all rooms.
The resort lodge at Mohican State Park opened in 1974 and was constructed at a cost of $5.1 million. Each of its 96 rooms features a balcony with an overview of the surrounding park and state forest. The lodge is equipped with private meeting and banquet rooms that will accommodate groups of 425 persons. Additional amenities include Olympic-sized indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, gift shop and lounge.
Additional Ohio State Parks with resort lodges include Hueston Woods in Preble County, Shawnee in Scioto County, Salt Fork in Guernsey County, Punderson in Geauga County, Maumee in Lucas County and Burr Oak in Morgan County. A new resort lodge at Geneva State Park in Ashtabula County opened in May. The lodge at Deer Creek State Park in Pickaway County is also slated for renovation and will be closed from January 3 to February 11.
