OHIO ORGANIZATIONS HONORED BY KEEP AMERICA BEAUTIFUL
COLUMBUS, OH - Five of Ohio’s community beautification programs have been honored by the national Keep America Beautiful program for their achievements in litter prevention, waste reduction and community improvement.
“We are very proud of the work these programs do,” said Ron Kolbash, chief of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention. “They serve as prime examples for other beautification, litter prevention and recycling programs throughout the country. Ohio’s Keep America Beautiful affiliates have been very active in community improvement and I’m glad to see them recognized for their efforts.”
The following Ohio programs were recognized during the organization’s national conference in Washington, D.C.:
Keep Columbus Beautiful received a First Place award for preventing litter through education and public awareness, a Distinguished Service Citation for using wise waste handling practices, and an Outstanding Sponsor Support award for its work with a national Keep America Beautiful sponsor. In addition, Keep Columbus Beautiful won the Distinguished Service Citation in state and local radio advertising, which recognized the organization’s work with public service announcements.
Keep Cincinnati Beautiful received a First Place Affiliate Award and the program’s executive director, Linda Holterhoff, received a Professional Leadership Award, the highest professional honor given by Keep America Beautiful. The Affiliate Award recognizes successful efforts to educate the public about the importance of litter prevention, beautifying communities, and improving the quality of life. In addition, Keep Cincinnati Beautiful won a $5,000 Environmental Grant from a national Keep America Beautiful sponsor for its First Place Affiliate Award.
Montgomery County Solid Waste District received the Distinguished Service Citation for its county’s litter prevention programs.
Keep Akron Beautiful received an award for Outstanding Sponsor Support for its work with a national Keep America Beautiful sponsor.
Keep Hardin County Beautiful received an Honorable Mention for the Fujifilm Award. This award is given to affiliates who best photo document their community improvement projects.
The ODNR Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention provides financial support to many of Ohio’s Keep America Beautiful affiliate programs.
