ODOT'S DISTRICT 3 OFFICE APPLAUDED FOR RECYCLING AND WASTE REDUCTION EFFORTS

COLUMBUS, OH -- Employees from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 3 office in Ashland, were recently recognized for their commitment to recycling and waste reduction in the workplace by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). ODOT District 3 includes Ashland, Crawford, Erie, Huron, Lorain, Medina, Richland and Wayne counties.

The award, presented by the ODNR Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention, recognized the district office for saving the State of Ohio more than $13,000 through recycling efforts. By both reducing waste and recycling products such as corrugated cardboard, newsprint, aluminum cans and scrap metal, the district office prevented more than 51 tons of waste from going to a landfill.

"It's important for state agencies, like ODOT, to set the pace for businesses, industry and individuals,” said Michael Canfield, chief of the ODNR Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention. “More and more, people are realizing that recycling is the right thing to do - not only for the environment, but also for their businesses' bottom line."

The Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention was recently awarded the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's "WasteWise Partner of the Year" award for achievements by state agencies in waste reduction, recycling and the purchasing of recycled products.
