MORE THAN 75,000 TROUT TO BE RELEASED AT 38 SITES AROUND OHIO --
PROJECT TO INCLUDE 14 SPECIAL YOUTH EVENTS
COLUMBUS, OH -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife is co-sponsoring a number of special youth fishing events this spring in connection with its annual release of rainbow trout. At these special youth events, young anglers will be given preferred access to trout release sites. Specific information on each of the 14 youth angling events is available by calling 1-800-WILDLIFE.
Locations include Antrim Park and Washington Court House Park in central Ohio; Van Wert Reservoir, White Star Quarry, Geirtz Lake and Olander Lake in northwest Ohio; Camp Muskingum, Little Turtle Pond, Ohio Canal Lock No.4, and Punderson Lake in northeast Ohio; Dow, Turkey Creek, and Hammertown lakes in southeast Ohio; and Stonelick Lake in southwest Ohio.
More than 79,000 rainbow trout measuring 10 to 13 inches will be released into 38 Ohio lakes and ponds during March and April to enhance public fishing opportunities and encourage more people to fish.
The first release will be made March 2 in Adams Lake in southwest Ohio. The daily catch limit in the inland lakes is five trout per angler.
Persons age 15 and under are not required to purchase a fishing license. Ohio anglers age 66 and older may obtain their free fishing license from a fishing license vendor. The new annual resident fishing is now available at a cost of $15 and is valid through February 28, 2001. A one-day fishing license sells for $7 and may be redeemed for credit toward purchase of an annual license.
Additional information about these special youth events and the spring trout releases is available by calling a Division of Wildlife district office in Akron, Athens, Columbus, Findlay, and Xenia, or by calling 1-800-WILDLIFE.
