COLUMBUS, OH -- Ohio high school students seeking to build outdoor skills and explore environmental issues are encouraged to participate in the annual Green Teen Expo, scheduled for March 1-3 at Burr Oak State Park in Morgan County.
This year's expo, sponsored by Ohio State Parks, offers both one-day and three-day participation options.
"We recommend the Green Teen Expo to all high school students with an interest in science and nature," said Dan West, chief of Ohio State Parks. "This annual event encourages youths to share their enthusiasm for nature and the outdoors. We welcome high school ecology clubs, home schoolers, scouts, 4-H and other youth groups to make Green Teens a special field trip," he said.
The expo features hands-on programs led by natural resources professionals on topics such as forestry, astronomy, outdoor photography, animal tracking and bird banding, fly fishing and water safety. Students can also explore careers in natural resources, discuss environmental concerns and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities. Other event sponsors are the Seal of Ohio Girl Scout Council and West Virginia State Parks.
Green Teen Expo participants can attend one-day only on Friday, March 2, or stay for the entire three days. Students must be accompanied by an adult. A registration fee of $12 per person covers all programs and lunch on Friday. Special rates are offered for overnight stays in Burr Oak Lodge or in nearby park cottages. To register, contact Ohio State Parks at (614) 265-6561.
