TURKEY HUNTING OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE AT PAINT CREEK STATE PARK

CINCINNATI, OH -- Youth hunting opportunities abound during spring turkey season. Experienced hunters know the thrill of hearing the gobble of a wild turkey in the springwoods. And, many seasoned hunters are finding the excitement of sharing the hunt with a young hunter.

It is now easier for young hunters to hunt various locations in Ohio including controlled hunts at many state parks, including Paint Creek in Highland County.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife and Paint Creek State Park, will be hosting a youth turkey hunt that will coincide with the Special Youth Wild Turkey Season and the Spring 2000-2001 Wild Turkey Season.

Paint Creek State Park will have a controlled hunt on April 21, 2001 of the Youth Turkey Season and three Saturdays of the Spring Turkey Season, April 28, May 3, and May 10 of 2001.

A drawing will be held on March 17, 2001 starting at 1 p.m. at the Paint Creek State Park Office, 14265 U.S. Route 50, Bainbridge, OH 45612. The State Park will be divided into four hunting zones.

The following are guidelines and/or conditions that will be included on the permit:

  1. One (1) non-hunting adult per two (2) youths age 15 and under.
  2. Permittee must hunt within the zone specified on the permit.
  3. Turkeys harvested must be checked in at Skinners Bait & Tackle.
  4. The permit is transferable but the park office 937-365-1401 must be notified prior to the hunt (name, permit number, and new permit name).
  5. The drawing date will be on the third Saturday in March 3/17/2001 at 1 p.m.
  6. On the day of the drawing, each participant must show an Ohio Hunting License and Turkey Permit in their name.
  7. Each adult gets one draw; however, park personnel will have the ability to allow extra draws if dates/zones are left open.
