ODNR SEEKING PUBLIC INPUT ON FUTURE OF DIKE 14
NEAR CLEVELAND LAKEFRONT STATE PARK

COLUMBUS, OH -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is seeking input from Cleveland-area residents regarding the future of Dike 14, an 88-acre man-made peninsula adjacent to the Gordon Park section of Cleveland Lakefront State Park.

The "Goals For Dike 14" study process will solicit public preferences for future uses of the area, which was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers out of materials dredged from the Cuyahoga River and Cleveland Harbor over the last 23 years. The property is now in the hands of the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority.

Situated at the north end of Martin Luther King Boulevard, between the Memorial Shoreway and Lake Erie, the Dike 14 property is strategically located to Gordon Park, Cleveland’s Glenville, Collinwood and St. Clair-Superior neighborhoods, and the Village of Bratenhal.

Cleveland City Planning Director Chris Ronayne applauded ODNR for its approach to planning for the site.

“We know there is an overwhelming desire in Greater Cleveland for new parks, green space and public access to the lakefront, and for public involvement in planning for the future of the waterfront,” Ronayne said. “ODNR is starting at the right place with the public and we look forward to a good working partnership in this effort.”

ODNR has hired local Cleveland consultant Genevieve Ray to direct the public input process. Ray's contract calls for her work to be carried out over a six-month period.

Ray's effort will involve active outreach to a wide range of constituents, plus site tours, meetings and work sessions to explore future uses of Dike 14.

People who want to be involved should contact Ray by e-mail at Dike14Study@aol.com or at her office, 2828 Edgehill Road, Cleveland Heights 44118. Ray's phone number is 216-371-3323.
