ATHENS, OH - Roby Williams, wildlife officer for Guernsey County, was recently named Wildlife Officer of the Year for 2002 by the Ohio State Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF), according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.
Williams has been a wildlife officer for the ODNR Division of Wildlife since 1993. He and his family reside near Cambridge.
Officer Williams serves as a leader through his professional approach and attitude to law enforcement, said Jim Marshall, manager of ODNRs southeastern wildlife district. He is also highly regarded in the community for his enthusiastic support of conservation efforts.
The NWTF cited Williams involvement with county conservation clubs, including serving as a committee member of his local NWTF chapter.
In addition, Williams has been instrumental during the past three years in hosting a spring gathering of the NWTF national board and the ODNR Division of Wildlife. Our successful partnership with the NWTF is due in part to the successful meetings that Roby has coordinated, said Marshall.
Williams is the second generation in his family to serve the ODNR Division of Wildlife. His father served the agency for 30 years as a wildlife area manager.
In addition to his many duties as a wildlife officer, Williams is a member of the Division of Wildlife Honor Guard and is an instructor on the agencys firearms training team.
