ANNUAL SLED DOG RACES ARE A "GO" FOR UPCOMING WEEKEND
AT PUNDERSON STATE PARK

COLUMBUS, OH -- Following two earlier cancellations this winter, the annual Punderson Siberian Sled Dog Classic is a "go" for the upcoming weekend at Punderson State Park in Geauga County. More than 500 people are expected to attend the event, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, and Sunday, March 2.

Two months of cold temperatures and heavy precipitation have combined to create excellent racing conditions for the competition, which is sponsored by the Geauga County Tourism Board. Race officials estimate the course is currently covered with about a foot of snow.

“The forecast is for sunny skies and temperatures in the 30s,” said Punderson State Park Manager Nick Fischbach. “With the ample amount of snow we have on the race course, conditions should be ideal for both mushers and spectators.”

The Siberian Husky Club of Greater Cleveland manages the races, one of northeast Ohio's premier wintertime sporting events. Details are available on the club's web page at www.siberiancleveland.org .

Public parking for the races is available at the beach parking lot. Best race viewing opportunities will be at the park's golf course. Snacks and drinks may be purchased at the course pro shop throughout the event. People attending the races are asked to leave all domestic pets at home.

Overnight accommodations at Punderson Manor Lodge and cottages are available by calling 1-800-AT-A-PARK or 440-564-9144. Reservations are encouraged for the lodge's popular brunch buffet, served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 2. Brunch prices: $14.95 for adults; $6.95 for children.
