GREAT LAKES GEOLOGY COALITION TO HOLD FORUM IN COLUMBUS ON FEBRUARY 24

COLUMBUS, OH -- Geologists from across the central Great Lakes region will gather in Columbus on February 24 for a one-day forum to discuss critical environmental and economic issues affected by the region's geology. The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Columbus Mariott North, 6500 Doubletree Avenue.

The forum will feature a number of panels and seminars on topics dealing with today's geology and the environment, including environmental and land-use challenges in the 21st Century, living with geological hazards, and case histories on groundwater abuse. Dr. Charles G. Groat, new director of the U.S. Geological Survey will be the featured speaker at the event's luncheon.

The forum is sponsored by the Central Great Lakes Geological Mapping Coalition, a partnership of geological surveys in each of the central Great Lakes states and the U.S. Geological Survey. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Geological Survey is the host of the event.
