SPECIAL LATE GOOSE HUNTING SEASON TO OPEN IN 19 OHIO COUNTIES

COLUMBUS, OH - In an effort to reduce the number of urban Canada geese present in Ohio, hunters will be able to participate in a special late goose hunting season that opens Saturday in portions or all of 19 counties, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

Ohio’s goose hunting season will remain open daily January 15 through February 5 in Allen, Auglaize, Delaware, Fulton, Hardin, Henry, Huron, Licking, Seneca, Stark and Union counties. This late season will also be open in portions of Ashtabula, Erie, Geauga, Lake, Lucas, Sandusky, Summit and Wood counties.

Hunters must possess a special late season goose hunting permit in addition to a valid hunting license, state and federal duck stamps, and a Harvest Information Program certification. The late season goose permits may be obtained free of charge from Division of Wildlife district offices in Columbus, Akron, Athens, Findlay and Xenia, and at the Crane Creek Research Station in Oak Harbor.

The daily bag limit is two Canada geese during the special late season.

The Division of Wildlife reports high numbers of Canada geese are present in the areas where the late hunting season will be open. The Lake Erie Goose Zone in northern Ohio is closed during this special season. The 70-day general goose and brant hunting seasons in the South and Ohio River zones remain open through January 31.
