HANDS-ON ECOLOGICAL WORKSHOP TO BE OFFERED AT OLD WOMAN CREEK NATIONAL ESTUARINE RESEARCH RESERVE & STATE NATURE PRESERVE
HURON, OH -- A one-day workshop for educators to learn more about the ecology of Lake Erie will be held at Old Woman Creek National Estuarine Research Reserve and State Nature Preserve on Saturday, January 22, from 8:30 am to 3 p.m. The workshop, titled Lake-Aware Kids Engaged in Relevant Science (LAKERS), will provide participants with a variety of hands-on activities to learn more about the Great Lakes, including Lake Erie.
Teachers and environmental educators who wish to participate in the workshop can still register by calling (419) 433-4601.
At the completion of the workshop, participants will receive a variety of educational resources, including workbooks, posters and visual aids to help educate students on Lake Erie ecosystems.
Old Woman Creek is located just east of Huron on State Route 6, 2514 Cleveland Road East. This 571-acre preserve is located on the shoreline of Lake Erie. The reserve encompasses open water, marshlands, sand beaches, forests and old farm fields. A mixed habitat features a variety of aquatic and terrestrial flora and fauna. Bald eagles nest and produce young within the preserve. There is a visitor center with educational programming available on a scheduled basis. Wildlife observation trails and other recreational activities are also available and open to the public.
