TAKE PRIDE IN OHIO SCHOOLS! INCENTIVE GRANTS ANNOUNCED

COLUMBUS, OH - Nine schools across the state have been awarded a total of $2,700 from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) to conduct litter prevention, recycling and waste reduction activities. The funds are awarded through the Take Pride in Ohio Schools! incentive program, coordinated by ODNR's Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention.

"This program gives students in grades 7-12 a chance to make an environmental difference, by designing recycling, waste reduction and litter prevention activities for their schools and communities." said Michael Canfield, chief of ODNR's Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention. "This year's funded activities include equipment purchases to strengthen recycling programs, litter collection on school grounds and recycling activities at high school sporting events."

Grant applications were submitted by student teams working with local recycling and litter prevention programs. All funded projects will be completed by the end of the 1999-2000 school year.
