ODNR AWARDS $10,000 TO JEFFERSON COUNTY
FOR LITTER PREVENTION PROGRAM

COLUMBUS, OH -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) will present the Jefferson County commissioners with $10,000 on Thursday, January 10, to initiate a new litter prevention and education program for the county. The check presentation will take place at 9:45 a.m. at the county commissioners' office in the Jefferson County Courthouse, 301 Market Street, Steubenville.

Jefferson County has been chosen to participate in “Take Pride, Ohio!,” a statewide litter prevention and revitalization campaign coordinated by the ODNR Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention. During the next year, Jefferson County will create an individual, comprehensive litter prevention and education program to serve its citizens. These programs will involve a combination of litter prevention, volunteerism and economic revitalization to assist in the cleanup of litter-strewn areas.

“Jefferson County will help ODNR design a sustainable litter prevention program that can be adapted for any Ohio community,” said Michael Canfield, chief of the Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention. “We’re looking forward to sharing this valuable information with the state’s local recycling and litter prevention programs next year.”

In addition to Jefferson County, other communities and counties participating in the “Take Pride, Ohio!” program are Allen County; Butler County/City of Hamilton; Guernsey County; City of Mansfield; Montgomery County/City of Dayton and Washington County.
