2003 OHIO WILDLIFE DIVERSITY CONFERENCE

COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio’s waters and its wildlife will be the focus of this year’s Ohio Wildlife Diversity Conference set for March 12 at the Aladdin Shriner’s Complex in Columbus. This year’s conference, “From Shore to Shore: Lake Erie to the Ohio River,” is open to the public and is sponsored by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

Dr. John F. Reiger’s keynote address on the origins of wildlife conservation will introduce a series of talks dealing with the importance of water to various wildlife species and their habitats. Some of the topics covered will include: West Sister Island’s nesting colonies of wading birds; reptile and amphibian conservation laws; research and monitoring of spadefoot toads, and the status of endangered Lake Erie water snake.

ODNR Division of Wildlife staff will also provide an overview of efforts to re-introduce shovelnose sturgeons to the Scioto River.

Experts will also provide information on how stream channelization impacts riparian wildlife and how wooded stream corridors are important to migrating birds.

For additional program information and registration, call 1-800-WILDLIFE and request a conference brochure. Or visit our web site at ohiodnr.com
