NEARLY $35,000 IN NAVIGATIONAL AID GRANTS AWARDED TO OHIO COMMUNITIES
COLUMBUS, OH - Eight Ohio communities and local agencies have received a total of $34,830 in grants for the purchase and placement of navigational aids on inland waterways in their areas, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).
Navigational Aid Grants are administered by the ODNR Division of Watercraft and funded through the Ohio Waterways Safety Fund. The fund consists of watercraft registration and titling fees, a percentage of the state gasoline sales tax and money from the U.S. Coast Guard.
Navigational Aid Grants are awarded on a non-matching basis to improve boating safety for the state’s estimated 3 million recreational boaters. Waterways that can be marked include controlled, restricted and hazardous areas. Buoys and signs must comply with the standard inland waterway regulatory marking system.
Additional information on the navigational aids and other ODNR grant programs is available by visiting the ODNR web site at ohiodnr.com and by calling the Division of Watercraft at 614-265-6446.
