JANUARY THAW CAUSES DANGEROUS CONDITIONS FOR WINTERTIME BOATERS

COLUMBUS, OH -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft urges any wintertime boaters to take extra caution while out on Ohio's waterways this weekend. Unseasonably warm weather, combined with rain and melting snow, has created some hazards on Ohio's rivers, lakes and streams -- including floating ice and higher than normal water levels.

Watercraft officers also warn that some rivers and streams may also be nearing their flood stage, causing very dangerous conditions. Wintertime boaters should plan properly, wear a lifejacket along with additional protective clothing, carry rescue and immersion gear and never boat alone.
