TWENTY-THREE OHIO SCHOOLS RECEIVE RECYCLING GRANTS
THROUGH THE
OHIO DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
COLUMBUS, OH – Twenty-three schools across the state will receive up to $500 each from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) to conduct litter prevention, recycling and waste reduction activities. The funds are awarded through the Take Pride in Ohio Schools! incentive program, created by ODNR's Division of Recycling and Litter Prevention. A total of $11,115 was awarded for the 1998-99 school year.
"This program gives students in grades 7-12 a chance to make an environmental difference, by designing recycling, waste reduction and litter prevention activities for their schools and communities," said Tom Davis, acting chief of ODNR’s Division of Recycling and Litter Prevention. "This year’s funded activities include equipment purchases to strengthen recycling programs, waste audits to help reduce cafeteria waste, art projects featuring recycled materials and original skits for educating younger students."
Grant applications were submitted by student teams working with local recycling and litter prevention programs. All funded projects will be completed by the end of the 1998-99 school year.
