CONTROLLED DEER, WATERFOWL HUNT APPLICATIONS DUE BY JULY 31

COLUMBUS, OH -- Hunters wanting to participate this fall in controlled deer and waterfowl hunts must submit their permit applications by July 31, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

These special hunts are held each fall on certain public areas to provide additional hunting opportunities. Applications are available by calling the ODNR Division of Wildlife's toll-free information line at 1-800-WILDLIFE and from wildlife district offices located in Akron, Athens, Columbus, Findlay, and Xenia or on the ODNR web site at dnr.state.oh.us

Controlled deer hunts are being held on select dates this fall and winter at the Ravenna Arsenal in Portage County, Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge in Lucas County, Lake Katharine State Nature Preserve in Jackson County, at the NASA Plum Brook facility in Erie County, and on portions of the Mosquito Creek and Killdeer Plains wildlife areas.

Controlled deer hunts for persons confined to wheelchairs are being held at Killdeer Plains and the Ottawa refuge. A non-refundable application fee of three dollars for each controlled hunt must be included with the application.

Special youth controlled deer hunts are also offered at the Ravenna Arsenal, Mosquito Creek and Killdeer Plains state wildlife areas and at the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. Eligible hunters for these youth hunts must be age 17 and under and accompanied by a licensed non-hunting adult at least 18 years of age or older. There are no fees required to apply for the youth hunts. Available dates for the controlled hunts are listed on the application.

Those who wish to participate in controlled waterfowl hunts this season must also submit their applications prior to July 31. These hunts will be held on selected dates at the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge, and on the Magee Marsh, Mosquito Creek and Mercer wildlife areas. Special youth controlled waterfowl hunts also are available for youths age 15 and under.

A non-refundable fee of three dollars for controlled waterfowl hunt must be included with the application. There are no fees required when submitting youth controlled waterfowl hunt applications.
