COLUMBUS, OH - Officials from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) will brief members of the Senate Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee on Lake Erie water levels at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, in the South Hearing Room of the Ohio Senate.
Purpose of the meeting is to discuss historic and long-term trends in lake-water levels (including forecasted levels), controls on Great Lakes waters and the impacts of Great Lakes water fluctuations. The briefing is one of ODNR's many initiatives to keep the public informed about the causes and effects of Lake Erie's lower-than-average water levels over the last three years.
Lake Erie water levels are expected to remain 8 to 12 inches below the long-term seasonal averages for the remainder of the summer. However, deviations from anticipated weather patterns could result in levels higher or lower than those projected.
