COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) staff member Tim Gerber was recently named winner of the 2001 Soil Scientist Achievement Award by the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Gerber, a Worthington resident, is the administrator of the Soil Inventory & Evaluation Section of ODNR's Division of Soil & Water Conservation.
The award, instituted in 1999, recognizes persons who have made significant contributions to the National Cooperative Soil Survey Program during their careers. Gerber's efforts in digitizing soil maps for the state have made Ohio's Soil Survey Program one of the best in the country.
"I congratulate Tim on receiving this award," said Larry Vance, chief of ODNR's Division of Soil & Water Conservation. "His leadership, innovation and dedication in the area of soil conservation deserves the kind of national recognition associated with this award."
Gerber will receive the award at the Soil Science Society of America's annual meeting, scheduled for October 21-25 in Charlotte, North Carolina..
