COLUMBUS, OH -- Jason A. Latchic of Blacklick has been assigned to serve as a seasonal state watercraft officer to patrol Indian Lake in Logan County, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft.
As part of his responsibilities, Latchic will patrol the popular 5,800-acre lake enforcing state boating laws and assisting boaters in distress. He will serve as a watercraft officer throughout the recreational boating season.
He is a 1997 graduate of Gahanna-Lincoln High School and graduated last year from Hocking College with an associate's degree in recreation and wildlife management. He previously worked as a volunteer with the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources and as an employee at Blacklick Woods Metro Park near Columbus.
Additionally, Latchic had previously completed training at the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy where he received instruction in the Ohio Revised Code, self-defense, investigative and arrest procedures, first aid, and other law enforcement-related skills.
ODNR's Division of Watercraft administers and enforces the state's recreational boating rules, conducts watercraft safety education programs and develops boating facilities on major water areas.
