NO-WAKE RULE BEGINS AT NETTLE LAKE IN WILLIAMS COUNTY

COLUMBUS, OH - A new no-wake rule goes into effect June 29 at Nettle Lake in Williams County, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft.

The previous speed limit of 10 miles per hour has been removed, and now power boaters must operate their craft at no more than idle speed between the hours of 6 p.m. and 10 a.m.

The no-wake rule also requires that all powerboats must proceed in a counter-clockwise direction when operating on Nettle Lake, except when beaching the boat or going to shore.

Rules adopted statewide that bring Ohio into compliance with federal guidelines include:

  • Requiring that boats more than 26 feet long display a placard stating that the discharge of oil into the water is prohibited.
  • Requiring operators of a self-propelled vessel measuring 12 meters or more in length to carry on board and maintain as a ready reference a copy of the Inland Navigation Rules; and
  • Requiring a display of placards in prominent locations on all boats 26 feet or longer that state the prohibition of discharge of garbage, dunnage, lining, and packing materials into the water.
