ODNR NAMES NEW LANDS MANAGEMENT POLICY ADVISOR
COLUMBUS, OH John J. Duffey was recently named Lands Management Policy Advisor at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). Duffey assumes his new duties on Monday, July 9.
In his new position, Duffey is charged with developing and implementing a comprehensive approach to the oversight of current ODNR-managed lands, as well as future property acquisitions by the agency. He will also guide the management of ODNR’s extensive network of facilities and structures to make sure their maintenance and use is in the best public interest.
"ODNR is fortunate to have John Duffey join our real estate and land management team in this new position,” said Derek Anderson, Chief of the ODNR Division of Real Estate and Land Management. "He is farsighted and will provide excellent leadership in developing policies and procedures for managing the state’s environmentally significant public lands and recreational areas.”
Duffey is an Ohio native who formerly chaired the governor’s strategic planning project at the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, developing long-term goals, strategies and tactics. He has also been an administrator in the Ohio House of Representatives. More recently, Duffey has worked in Florida state government where he coordinated emergency assistance and other services in an eight-county area.
He has also been involved in national and international outreach to leaders in Northern Ireland and was a moving force behind the 1996 White House Conference on Investment in Northern Ireland. He is an accomplished public speaker who has lectured at universities and colleges across the country.
The ODNR manages more than 500,000 acres of Ohio’s public lands for recreation, habitat protection and conservation. The agency oversees 74 state parks, 20 state forests, 131 nature preserves and 155 wildlife areas, as well as property associated with the state’s historic canal system.
