COLUMBUS, OH - James Martin McCoy, 55, of Galloway, was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison this week for his role in the theft of eight boats and a pickup truck more than two years ago, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). He also was ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution for the truck theft.
McCoy, who also used the name Jack Cochrun, was among a group of six Ohioans who were indicted by a Franklin County grand jury in 2002 as the result of a 15-month investigation by the ODNR Division of Watercraft and the Ohio State Highway Patrol into a multi-state boat theft ring. McCoy originally was charged with 24 felony counts of theft, falsification, tampering with watercraft identification numbers and misleading state officials to obtain false watercraft titles. He eventually pled guilty to reduced charges in the case.
