ROUTINE MAINTENANCE OF GAS WELLS
SCHEDULED FOR MOHICAN-MEMORIAL STATE FOREST, MOHICAN STATE PARK

PERRYSVILLE, OH - Routine maintenance on three underground natural gas storage wells will involve the removal of a limited number of pine trees at Mohican-Memorial State Forest and Mohican State Park in Ashland County in coming weeks.

Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation owns mineral rights to the wells, which pre-date the creation of the state forest in 1928. The company performs routine maintenance on the wells and gas pipelines in the area.

Columbia Gas plans to remove trees in circular areas around two wells in the forest and one well in the park, at the bottom of Clear Fork Gorge. The maintenance work will involve a total of 1.5 acres and will result in improved access and safer well operations. The reconditioning project will also include the excavation of soil around the wells.

Well site work will include trail improvements to ease access for cyclists and hikers in the forest and park. All work will be completed prior to the summer recreational season.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources manages the 4,525-acre Mohican-Memorial State Forest and the 1,294-acre Mohican State Park.
