EMERITUS MEMBER OF THE ODNR COASTAL RESOURCES
ADVISORY COUNCIL
RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD
Edith Chase also a member of Ohio Natural Resources Hall of Fame.

SANDUSKY, OH - Edith Chase of Kent was recently honored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) with the Walter B. Jones Memorial Award as the Coastal Steward of the Year. Chase is an emeritus member of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Coastal Resources Advisory Council.

Administered by NOAA, the Walter B. Jones Award is given every two years to individuals who exemplify strong, sustained leadership in finding a balance between the human use of coastal areas and the needs of the environment. The award is named after the late North Carolina Congressman who provided leadership in addressing coastal and ocean resources.

Chase is president and founder of the Ohio Coastal Resource Management Project, a nonprofit citizens’ organization established in 1982 to encourage passage of the Ohio Coastal Management Law. The Ohio General Assembly unanimously approved the law in 1988. The Ohio Coastal Management Program was federally approved in 1997.

The Coastal Resources Advisory Council advises the ODNR on the administration of the Ohio Coastal Management Program, the goal of which is to promote, protect, enhance and encourage the wise use of Lake Erie’s resources and watershed. Chase was a member of the council through February 2002. She was elected to the Ohio Natural Resources Hall of Fame in 1992.
