COLUMBUS, OH - Recreational boating access will be improved at 11 sites throughout Ohio thanks to more than $3.2 million in grants awarded by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft.
The grant awards range from $64,666 to improve the Augusta Street public boat launch ramp in Clermont County’s village of New Richmond to $726,500 to fund renovations to the Gordon Park launch ramp facility at Cleveland Lakefront State Park.
Other projects that received grants included boating access facilities at several Ohio State Parks, such as Mosquito Lake, East Fork, Caesar Creek, Shawnee, Lake Hope and Pymatuning.
The Cooperative Boating Access Facility Program grants are made available through the Ohio Waterways Safety Fund, which is comprised of a portion of the state motor vehicle fuel tax, watercraft registration and titling fees and funding from the U.S. Coast Guard. The grants are awarded on a competitive basis and are administered by the Division of Watercraft to improve public boating access for the state’s estimated 3 million recreational boaters.
The Division of Watercraft also has awarded a Recreational Harbor Evaluation grant of $186,575 to the Eastlake Port Authority for dredging to improve boating access in a portion of the lower Chagrin River.
