COLUMBUS, OH -- Governor Bob Taft has named Miami County resident Randy Mott to a four-year term on the Ohio Soil and Water Conservation Commission (OSWCC). His term runs through June 2006.
Mott has served on the Miami County Soil & Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors and also on the Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts Board of Directors. Since 1978, he has been farm manager for Tip Top Canning Company. He oversees management of 1,500 acres of corn, soybeans, tomatoes, wheat and clover.
Mott is a member of the Miami County Planning Commission and the Pioneer Rural Electric Cooperative County Board. He is also president of the Miami County Farm Bureau.
Mott holds a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics from The Ohio State University.
In cooperation with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), the OSWCC works to protect the valuable water and soil resources of the state. The commission advises Ohio's 88 county-based soil and water conservation districts on the implementation of programs that reduce erosion control, stormwater runoff and improve water quality.
The OSWCC determines the allocation of state matching funds and various grants to soil and water conservation districts. It issues rules for the election of local Soil & Water Conservation District supervisors and recommends to the director of the ODNR priorities for planning and construction of small watershed projects. The commission also approves agricultural pollution abatement and urban sediment pollution abatement rules proposed by ODNR.
