DELAWARE COUNTY MAN APPOINTED TO THE OHIO SOIL & WATER CONSERVATION COMMISSION

COLUMBUS, OH - Governor Bob Taft has named Delaware County resident Tom Price to the Ohio Soil and Water Conservation Commission (OSWCC). His term runs through June 2004.
Price serves on the Delaware Soil & Water Conservation District's Education Advisory Committee. He is general manager of Pork-Q-Pine Farm, Price Marketing and Price-Barnes Organics, Ltd.

He previously chaired the Ohio Pork Industry Strategic Planning Committee and the Delaware County Farmland Preservation Task Force.

In 1997, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) named Price and his wife, Judy, an Ohio Conservation Farm Family. They've also been named a Delaware Area Chamber of Commerce Farm Family and Ohio Cattlemen's Environmental Stewards.

Price holds a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics from The Ohio State University.

The OSWCC works cooperatively with the ODNR Division of Soil & Water Conservation to protect the valuable water and soil resources of the state. The commission advises Ohio's 88 county-based soil and water conservation districts on the implementation of programs that reduce erosion control, stormwater runoff and improve water quality.

The OSWCC determines the allocation of state matching funds and various grants to soil and water conservation districts. It issues rules for the election of local Soil & Water Conservation District supervisors and recommends to the director of the ODNR priorities for planning and construction of small watershed projects. The commission also approves agricultural pollution abatement and urban sediment pollution abatement rules proposed by ODNR.
