COLUMBUS, OH - There’s no aspect of boating more important than a safety education course, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft.
As the end of the academic year approaches, division officials encourage more boaters, novice as well as experienced, to pursue a boating safety education certificate as evidence they’ve completed this valuable course of study.
“It should be a personal goal of all boaters to take an approved boating safety education class,” said Michael Quinn, acting chief of the ODNR Division of Watercraft. “And we hope that many Ohioans will elect to complete a class before the summer boating season starts.”
More than 10,000 Ohioans successfully complete an approved boating safety education class each year. Boating professionals nationwide agree that becoming more knowledgeable about safe boating practices and rules results in safer waterways. They also agree that successfully completing a boating safety class approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) is an honor to be proudly shared among all recreational boaters.
“Becoming educated and knowledgeable in boating safety is a personal accomplishment that should be held in high esteem by everyone who cares about recreation,” Quinn said.
Dozens of boating safety classes are being offered statewide by the Division of Watercraft and some of its boating partners, including the U.S. Power Squadrons and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. A listing of these classes is available online at ohiodnr.com and by calling the Division of Watercraft toll free at 877-4BOATER.
