COLUMBUS, OH -- Dublin resident Terrie H. TerMeer was recently appointed chief of the Ohio Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a division of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. TerMeer has served as assistant chief of the division since 1999.
TerMeer's new appointment follows more than 20 years in public service. Following her 1977 graduation from Otterbein College, TerMeer was a legislative liaison at ODNR. From 1984 to 1988, she was director of parks and recreation for the City of Gahanna. She served in various positions for the AmeriFlora '92 exhibition and was a special assistant to former Columbus Mayor Greg Lashutka during the early 1990s. Later, she worked as deputy director of special projects and acting deputy of communications for then-Secretary of State Bob Taft.
In her new position, TerMeer will oversee all operations of the CCC's two residential and six non-residential camps across Ohio. She will also formulate policy and promote recruitment for the conservation-based training program, which is modeled after the federal Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s and 1940s.
Currently, more than 200 young adults are enrolled in CCC. The organization provides employment and training opportunities for Ohioans age 18 to 24. People enrolled in the program receive valuable work experience, educational opportunities and life-skill training all while completing meaningful conservation and recreation projects to benefit citizens of Ohio
