GOVERNOR TAFT ANNOUNCES NEARLY $7 MILLION
IN COMMUNITY RECYCLING & LITTER PREVENTION GRANTS

COLUMBUS, OH – Governor Bob Taft has announced $6,999,911 in Community Recycling & Litter Prevention grants to be awarded to 99 communities, counties and solid waste management organizations across the state, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

The grants support recycling activities, community outreach campaigns and traditional litter prevention programs at the local level.

“Providing Ohioans with opportunities to recycle and keep their communities litter-free benefits the environment and the state’s economy,” Taft said. “These community grants play an important role in the effort to conserve and protect Ohio’s natural resources.”

The ODNR Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention administers the Community Recycling & Litter Prevention Grant program. Since 1981, the division has awarded more than $190 million in grants to Ohio communities and businesses to support local recycling, litter prevention and recycling market development efforts.

Funding for the grant programs comes from a corporate franchise tax on Ohio businesses that manufacture or sell products that might become litter, such as newspapers, plastic bottles and cans.
