OHIO STATE PARKS OFFER HOLIDAY EVENTS THIS DECEMBER

COLUMBUS, OH - Celebrate the winter holidays with creative crafts, seasonal hikes and festive light displays amid the beauty and tranquility of an Ohio State Park.

Check out the following festivities taking place this winter at Ohio State Parks:

During the month of December, enjoy the more than one million lights on display at Alum Creek State Park’s Fantasy of Lights in Delaware County. See more than 100 light displays, visit with Santa and enjoy hot chocolate and cookies. The display is open from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., Sundays through Thursdays, and 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. There is a fee of $10 per car Monday through Thursday, and $15 Friday through Sunday. For more information call 740-548-4068.

On Saturday, December 3, create holiday ornaments from the fruit of a sweet gum tree. Holiday Craft events are being hosted from 10 a.m. to noon in the lodge at Mary Jane Thurston State Park in Wood County, and from 1 to 4 p.m. in the nature center at Van Buren State Park in Hancock County. Be sure and get a cup of steaming hot chocolate. For more information call 419-832-7662.

Thursday, December 8 through Sunday, December 11 enjoy Candlelight Christmas Tours at Malabar Farm State Park in Richland County. Tour the decorated home of Pulitzer Prize author Louis Bromfield and enjoy crafts, refreshments, caroling, holiday stories and shopping. The tours are open from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. A modest fee is charged for guided house tours. For more information call 419-892-2784.

Thursday, December 8 through Sunday, December 11 celebrate Christmas at the Hollow at Quail Hollow State Park in Stark County. Tour the historic Stewart Manor, decorated for an old-fashioned holiday. Enjoy refreshments, holiday crafts and entertainment, and visits with Santa. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 330-877-6652.

On Saturday, December 10, participate in the Holiday Traditions Workshops at Caesar Creek State Park in Clinton County. Create your own holiday decorations and ornaments from natural materials gathered from the park’s woods and fields. Sessions begin at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the day lodge. Pre-registration and $5 fee for materials is required. Call 513-897-3055 for information.

Saturday, December 10 - There’s no better way to enjoy the holiday season than with a stroll in the crisp winter air through Hocking Hill State Park in Hocking County. Celebrate Christmas in Ash Cave from 5 to 7 p.m. at the park. Bundle up and enjoy a bonfire, refreshments, caroling, visit with Santa and holiday tree decorating for wildlife.
