 HALLOWEEN FUN SCHEDULED FOR MANY OHIO STATE PARKS

COLUMBUS, OH - Ghosts, goblins, goodies and fun are lurking in the woods and campgrounds of many Ohio State Parks as the Halloween season approaches, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). Late October traditionally brings a host of spooky weekend activities to parks and campgrounds across the state, including trick-or-treat nights, pumpkin-carving and costume contests, haunted trails and more.

"At least 15 of our 73 state parks are joining in the 'spirit' of Halloween with seasonal activities that entire families can enjoy together," said Dan West, Ohio State Parks chief. "Now's the time to plan a late-season campout or park visit in order to participate in the fun."

Halloween events are scheduled for the following Ohio State Parks during the next two weeks:

Northeast
Halloween Campout Mohican State Park (Ashland County) October 20-21 Campers and cottage guests can enjoy trick-or-treat, pumpkin carving, apple butter making, nature programs, costume and spookiest campsite contests and a disc jockey. Northwest
Halloween Campout Lake Loramie State Park (Shelby County) October 20-21 Spooky movies, pumpkin carving, campsite decorating, games and a potluck dinner and trick-or-treat are some of the activities on tap. Regular camping fees apply. Call 937-295-2011
Coastal Halloween Campout Maumee Bay State Park (Lucas County) October 27-28 Special treats include pumpkin carving, costume and campsite decorating contests, hayrides, trick-or-treat and a Halloween dance. Regular camping fees apply. Call 419-836-7758.
Coastal Haunted Nature Center Maumee Bay State Park (Lucas County) October 27-28 Enjoy spooky treats, a Halloween history video, nature center exhibits and walks along the haunted boardwalk trail. Call 419-836-9117.
Southeast
Fright Nights & Halloween Campout Dillon State Park (Muskingum County) October 27-28 Daytime events include pumpkin carving, trick-or-treat, a costume contest and frightfully decorated campsites. At night, the beach will host a spooky haunted house. Regular camping fees apply. Call 740-453-4377.
Halloween Campout Lake Alma State Park (Vinton County) October 27-28 Campers are invited to come in costume for trick-or-treating, a Halloween parade, hayrides and refreshments. Regular camping fees apply. Call 740-384-4474.

Halloween Campout Hocking Hills State Park (Hocking County) October 28-29 The Old Man's Cave Campground will host seasonal fun including hayrides, pumpkin decorating, costume and campsite decorating contests, trick-or-treat - plus a night hike and campfire.
