PUBLIC INPUT SOUGHT IN TOLEDO AREA FOR
DEVELOPING MIDDLE BASS ISLAND STATE PARK

COLUMBUS, OH -- As part of its continuing work to develop a new state park on Middle Bass Island in Lake Erie, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) will hold a public open house in Toledo to present a draft of the future park’s master development plan.

The open house and presentation is scheduled for 8 p.m. on November 6 at the Toledo Yacht Club, located at 3900 N. Summit Street. Previous public input meetings were held in July on Middle Bass Island, and in Port Clinton and Put-In-Bay.

“Our goal is to develop a state park on Middle Bass Island that meets the recreational needs of Ohioans while preserving and protecting the natural and cultural environment of the area,” said ODNR Director Sam Speck. “These open house presentations provide the public an opportunity to have direct input on creation of their next state park.”

Earlier this summer, Gov. Bob Taft unveiled the draft master plan proposal which included renovation and expansion of the Middle Bass Island marina; construction of campgrounds, trails and cottages and restoration of the historic Lonz Winery.

The draft master plan is the culmination of 15 months of work on the part of ODNR that began when the first public input meetings were held last year. Many comments have since been received, evaluated and incorporated into the draft plan.
