ODNR WATERCRAFT DEPUTY CHIEF TAKES NATIONAL POST
AS HEAD OF THE AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION

COLUMBUS, OH - Pam Dillon, a deputy chief with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft since November, 1996, will leave that post November 2 to become executive director of the American Canoe Association located in Springfield, Virginia.

In her new position, Dillon will oversee the programs and activities of the country’s largest and most active nonprofit paddle sports organization, which is a nationally recognized leader in paddle sport education and instruction. The American Canoe Association was founded in 1880 and today has a membership of more than 45,000 people in 200 local paddling clubs.

“Pam has significantly helped in bringing the ODNR Division of Watercraft to the national forefront in boater education and instruction,” said ODNR Director Sam Speck. “Her appointment to this national organization is a reflection of the dedication and fine work she has done for Ohio’s boating community.”

Dillon, a native of Portsmouth, first joined ODNR in 1976 as a park naturalist aide. She then became a state watercraft officer in 1977 and later went on to serve as administrator of the public information and education section in the Division of Watercraft.
