BRILLIANT AUTUMN COLORS WILL HIGHLIGHT ANNUAL
CONKLE’S HOLLOW FALL FOLIAGE FESTIVAL, OCTOBER 15-16

COLUMBUS, OH - Some of the best colors of the season can be found along the winding trails of Conkle’s Hollow State Nature Preserve in Hocking County during the Fall Foliage Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., October 15-16. The event is part of the Natural Areas Discovery Series, sponsored by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Natural Areas & Preserves.

Visitors to the preserve can explore nearly four miles of trails, including a new fully accessible boardwalk that provides access to the gorge from its Lower Gorge Trail. A more challenging hike can be found along the preserve’s rim trails.

“Conkle’s Hollow offers visitors spectacular autumn views of the Hocking Hills,” said Thomas Linkous, chief of the Division of Natural Areas & Preserves. “Preserve naturalists will be on hand to direct visitors to the most scenic features of the preserve.”

The weekend also includes a re-enactment of a 1790s pioneer encampment, complete with period tents, actors in pioneer dress and late 18th Century cooking. The early Ohio settlers, portrayed by the Hock-Hocking Historical Trekkers, will set up camp west of the parking lot.

The 87-acre Conkle’s Hollow State Nature Preserve is located off of State Route 664, south of U.S. Route 33. For additional information, contact the preserve manager, Jeff Johnson, at 740-420-3445.

The Conkle’s Fall Foilage Festival is the final event in the 2005 Discovery Series. The series will resume next spring with events throughout the state. The Division of Natural Areas and Preserves oversees 130 state nature preserves and 21 state scenic river segments throughout Ohio. For more information visit ohiodnr.com
