FOREST HERITAGE FESTIVAL SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 20-21 IN NEW PHILADELPHIA
DOVER, OH - Teaching the public about forest resources, and raising money to help treat and prevent children’s illness and injury, are the focus of the 11th Annual Forest Heritage Festival, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday, October 20-21, in Dover, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).
The event, which benefits Akron Children’s Hospital, is hosted by the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds and co-sponsored by employees of the New Philadelphia Wal-Mart Store, the East Central Ohio Loggers Chapter, and the ODNR Division of Forestry. Last year, more than $100,000 was raised during the festival.
“We are proud to be a part of this event, which serves as a wonderful opportunity to educate the public about our state’s forest resources, as well as raise money for a great cause,” said Frank Corona, assistant district forester manager with the Division of Forestry.
Admission to the festival is free. Entertainment includes performances by Timber Tina’s Lumberjills Show, live music, wagon rides, craft exhibits, activities for kids, chain saw sculpturing, and rail splitting. In addition, a portable sawmill, logging trucks, logging equipment and forest products will be on display. A helicopter ambulance will visit.
Fundraising events to benefit the hospital include the popular charity auction on Saturday, October 21, featuring donated Amish-crafted items such as furniture, toys, tools, quilts, bedroom and dining room suites. Money is also raised through the sale of donated food and concession items, and raffle tickets.
