OHIO’S BOATING SAFETY GRANT APPLICATIONS DUE IN NOVEMBER

COLUMBUS, OH -- Applications for boating safety education grants are now available and must be submitted by November 9 to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft.

“These grants are available each year to establish, develop, expand, maintain and promote boating safety programs statewide,” said Jeff Hoedt, chief of the ODNR Division of Watercraft.

Grants ranging from $500 to $30,000 per program are awarded on a cost share basis with the applicant matching at least 25 percent of the total program cost. Boating Safety grants are funded through the Waterways Safety Fund, which is comprised of boat registration fees, a portion of the state gasoline tax and funding from the U.S. Coast Guard.

Boating education grant workshops will be held September 28 in Columbus and October 24 at Deer Creek State Park near Mt. Sterling to provide assistance to grant applicants. Boating safety grant applications may be obtained by calling 1-877-4BOATER and by visiting the ODNR’s web site at www.dnr.state.oh.us
