WATERWAYS AGREEMENT SIGNED BETWEEN OHIO AND KENTUCKY

COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio and Kentucky officials have signed an agreement to mutually promote boating safety education and enforce boating laws on the portion of the Ohio River that divides the states, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

The agreement was recently signed by ODNR Director Sam Speck, ODNR Division of Watercraft Acting Chief Ken Alvey and Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources Law Enforcement Director Major Charles Browning during the annual meeting of the National Association of Boating Law Administrators held in Cleveland.

“This agreement represents an important partnership and mutual understanding with our neighboring state that will benefit boating interests along the Ohio River,” said Director Speck.

Specifically, the signed agreement allows each state agency to have mutual jurisdiction across the full width of the Ohio River between the two states and provides for increased opportunities to promote boating education and safety.
